Scope; Third Party Sites. This Privacy Policy applies only to Personal Data we collect at and through the Services. Our Site may contain links to third party sites that are not owned or controlled by the Company. Please be aware that we are not responsible for the privacy practices of such third party sites. We encourage you to be aware when you leave our Site and to read the privacy statements of any website you visit that collects Personal Data.

Terms of Use. Please note that your use of our Services is also subject to our Terms of Use, which incorporates this Privacy Policy. Any terms we use in this Privacy Policy without defining them have the definitions given to them in the Terms of Use.

Personal Data You Provide to Us

We collect Personal Data you provide directly to us. For example, you may provide us with your email address in order to join our mailing list. You may also provide you name, photograph, and other information if you choose to share your story with us. 

Note that we also collect Personal Data from your use of the Services that is anonymous and therefore not identifiable to you.  We do not connect the information you provide that is identifiable to you with the anonymous information you submit to us.

Information Collected Through Cookies and Similar Technologies

We and our service providers use cookies, web beacons, and other technologies to receive and store certain types of information whenever you interact with our Site through your computer or mobile device. As noted above, a “cookie” is a small file containing a string of characters that is sent to your computer when you visit a website. When you visit the Site again, the cookie allows the Site to recognize your browser. Cookies may store unique identifiers, user preferences and other information. Our Site currently does not respond to a user’s “Do Not Track” browser request.

No Information from Children Under Age 13

As noted in the Terms of Use, if you are under the age of 13, please do not attempt to register with us at this Site or provide any Personal Data about yourself to us. If we learn that we have collected Personal Data from a child under the age of 13, we will promptly delete that information. 3. HOW WE USE AND SHARE YOUR INFORMATION

To Inform the Site Map. We may use Personal Data that we collect from you in order to inform our digital map of all the reported interactions with law enforcement.

To Provide You with Information.  We may use your Personal Data (i.e., email address) to provide you with information that you request from us, as well as promotional materials about our Services, as well as new features of the Site.  You may opt out of receiving promotional communications from us at any time, as described in Section 4 below. We do not share your Personal Data with unaffiliated third parties for their own marketing uses.

To Provide Information to Our Partners. In certain cases, you may request that we share your Personal Data with certain legal services, policy and advocacy organizations that we have partnerships with if you would like to file a formal complaint or discuss your experience with an attorney. We will not share your Personal Data with any legal services, policy and advocacy organizations unless you request that we share such Personal Data.

To Operate the Site.  We may use and share your Personal Data with third party service providers so that we can most effectively operate and manage our Site. These service providers will have access to your Personal Data in order to provide our Services, but when this occurs we implement reasonable contractual and technical protections to limit their use of your Personal Data in helping us provide our Service. Unless we tell you differently, our vendors and service providers do not have any right to use the Personal Data we share with them beyond what is necessary to assist us.

Creating Anonymous Data. We may use your Personal Data to create aggregated user data that does not identify you specifically.  We may share this data with our partners, including legal services, policy and advocacy organizations, research partners and institutes, and advocacy groups. In the event that we share aggregated user data, your user-generated police ratings and experiences, as well as any other Personal Data or User Generated Content you provided to Company, will remain anonymous, unless you have previously given us permission to share your Personal Data in an identifiable manner (e.g., you decide to share your story on the Site). 

Legal and Protective Purposes. We will share Personal Data with third party companies, organizations or individuals outside of Company if we have a good-faith belief that access, use, preservation or disclosure of Personal Data is reasonably necessary to:

  • Comply with any applicable law, regulation, subpoena, legal process or enforceable governmental request.

  • Enforce applicable Terms of Use, including investigation of potential violations.

  • Detect, prevent, or otherwise address fraud, security or technical issues.

  • Protect against harm to the rights, property or safety of Company, our users, customers or the public as required or permitted by law.

Transfer in the Event of Sale or Change of Control. If the ownership of all or substantially all of our business changes or we otherwise transfer assets relating to our business or the Site to a third party, such as by merger, acquisition, bankruptcy proceeding or otherwise, we may transfer or sell your Personal Data to the new owner.

5. SECURITY OF YOUR INFORMATION

We use industry standard physical, technical and administrative security measures and safeguards to protect the confidentiality and security of your Personal Data. However, since the Internet is not a 100% secure environment, we cannot guarantee, ensure, or warrant the security of any Personal Data you transmit to us. There is no guarantee that Personal Data may not be accessed, disclosed, altered, or destroyed by breach of any of our physical, technical, or managerial safeguards. Please note that e-mails you send to us are not encrypted, and we strongly advise you not to communicate any confidential information through these means.

6. CONSENT TO PROCESSING OF PERSONAL DATA IN UNITED STATES

If you reside outside of the United States and submit Personal Data to us through the Site or otherwise access the Services, you should be aware that such Personal Data will be collected and processed in the United States.  By using and accessing our Services, users who reside or are located in countries outside of the United States agree and consent to the processing of Personal Data on servers located in the United States, understanding that the protection of such Personal Data may be different in the United States than what is required under the laws of their residence or location.

7. CHANGES TO OUR PRIVACY POLICY

Our Privacy Policy may change from time to time. We will post any Privacy Policy changes on this page and, if the changes are significant, we will provide a more prominent notice on the Site.   If you use the Services after any changes to the Privacy Policy have been posted, that means you agree to all of the changes. Use of Personal Data we collect now is subject to the Privacy Policy in effect at the time such Personal Data is used.

8. CALIFORNIA RESIDENTS
